L.A. Mayor Tony Villar Says Cab Driver Obeying the Law in Bicycle Accident

July 19, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports Los Angeles mayor states cab driver was obeying traffic laws. In a bicycle accident that occurred over the weekend involving Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa when a taxi driver pulled out in front of him causing him to fall from the bicycle and break his elbow.

The mayor stated what the driver did was not illegal, but he could have used more caution. The accident that ended in a broken elbow occurred on Venice Boulevard in the vicinity of Hargis and Hervey Streets, when Mayor Villaraigosa was riding with a member of his security detail. Upon hitting his breaks suddenly he flipped over his bicycle, but did not make contact with the taxi cab.

The driver of the taxi cab provided his information to the mayors security personnel, while the mayor was transported to UCLA Medical Center.

Villaraigosa required surgery on his elbow Sunday and was said to be wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the accident and did not sustain head injuries.

Injured Huntington Beach Teen Bicyclist Still in Serious Condition

July 6, 2010-According to reports a teen bicyclist struck by a vehicle Thursday is still in serious condition. According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, this Huntington Beach bicycle accident involved a 13 year old bicyclist that was involved in a crash Thursday remains in serious condition Tuesday.

Huntington Beach Police Department Lt. Russell Reinhart stated the teen boy is recovering according to his parents, but still in serious condition. The bicyclist according to Lt. Reinhart was involved in a crash in the vicinity of Lake Street and Adams Avenue at approximately 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

The crash occurred at the intersection when the bicyclists was crossing the street and road in front of a car on a green light. According to Lt. Reinhart the teen was wearing a skateboarding helmet at the time of the crash.
